March is … National Kidney Month

The goal of Nation Kidney Month is to focus the nation’s attention on kidney health – and for good reason. Kidney disease is a serious and increasingly common condition affecting the health of more than 31 million Americans.

Kidney diseases are most often caused by diabetes and high blood pressure, and can lead to a heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and death.

Anyone can develop kidney problems, however, there is a greater risk for those who:

* Have Diabetes

* Have High Blood Pressure

* Have a Family Member with Kidney Disease

* Are African American, Hispanic, Native American or Asian

* Are 60 Years of Age or Older

What are the Warning Signs?

Unfortunately 9 out of 10 people with early kidney disease don’t know it. More often than not there are no noticeable symptoms. The only way to know that your kidneys are working properly is to get tested. If caught early, kidney disease can be treated.

Ideas for a Healthy Valentine’s Day!

Is candy a no go? For those who are exploring a healthier way to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year, we have a few treats that you’ll love and will love you back. According to the census bureau, Americans eat more than 24 pounds of candy per person each year. It can be hard to avoid, but there are other great things to eat.

February is also national heart month, so why not focus on some heart healthy treats.

For breakfast, think a fruit smoothie packed with berries, which are a wonderful antioxidant. For 12 ounces, there’s 220 calories and 0 grams of fat. You can make it with Greek yogurt or milk.

Looking for a satisfying snack? We recommend nuts, which are a wonderful heart health food. You want to portion them out, however: 1 ounce almonds is 160 calories and 12 grams of fat; 1 ounce walnuts is 180 calories and 18 grams of fat.

And what about that sweet tooth? Two dark chocolate strawberries have 80 calories and 4 grams of fat. Studies are showing dark chocolate has some heart health components, as well. Just remember that dark chocolate needs to be 70-percent or more dark chocolate. You can even add a few almonds to the chocolate strawberries.

Today we honor the men and women whose profound acts of citizenship – service in the armed forces of the United States of America – have safeguarded our country for 237 years and guaranteed our rights and freedom as Americans.

As a member of the QTS Family, you are surrounded by heroes.   Each day we have the opportunity to express our appreciation to our everyday heroes in our words and actions.    In addition to the many veterans we transport, we also have several QTS team members who have served our country.  To all of our everyday heroes . . .we humbly offer  our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the many sacrifices that you and your loved ones have made in exchange for our freedom.

Fall has arrived in Phoenix; over-seeding is everywhere, temps are back in the 90′s, windows are cracked open at night, and the pool is getting just a little nippy for swimming.

Here at QTS we welcomed another brand new van to our fleet, along with new customers, and returning passengers from cooler climates.

QTS Customer Service Rocks!

Our Customer Service Team is on duty all day, every day – responding to phone calls, emails, faxes, and on-line reservations.

Almost everyone has spoken to or emailed with Victoria or Peggy at some point in time. Victoria is our Customer Experience Manager. She is responsible for ensuring that all your transportation is trouble free, and that should an issue arise, it is resolved promptly.

Peggy is our most senior Customer Service representative. When she isn’t busy making reservations and confirming trip details, she also helps out on Dispatch. Peggy is a walking encyclopedia of information about our customers, their preferences and histories.

Together, Peggy and Victoria, and the entire QTS customer service team, turn our QTS values into reality. And judging by the steady flow of thank you’s and the recognition they receive, you agree. Thank you!
Safe Trick or Treating Tips

Children should always go out trick or treating accompanied by a responsible adult.
Make sure and stick to the curfew times and stick to subdivisions and areas with a lot of homes so your kids can get in as much trick or treating as possible in a few hours time.
Plan a safe route so parents know where their older kids will be at all times. Set a time for their return home.
Let your children know not to cut through back alleys and fields if they are out alone. Make sure they know to stay in populated areas and not to go off the beaten track.
Instruct your children not to eat any treats until they bring them home to be examined by you.
Instruct your child to never go into the home of a stranger or get into their car.
Make sure your child carries a flashlight, glow stick or has reflective tape on their costume to make them more visible to cars.

Nursing = Learning and Compassion

1. 2. Jean Watson: Caring is the essence of nursing.

3. Myrtle Aydelotte: Nursing encompasses an art, a humanistic orientation, a feeling for the value of the individual, and an intuitive sense of ethics, and of the appropriateness of action taken.

4. Florence Nightingale: Unless we are making progress in our nursing every year, every month, every week, take my word for it we are going back.

5. Erin Pettengill: We often think of nursing as giving meds on time, checking an X-ray to see if the doctor needs to be called, or taking an admission at 2:00 a.m. with a smile on our faces. Too often, we forget all the other things that make our job what it truly is: caring and having a desire to make a difference.

6. Christine Belle: Our job as nurses is to cushion the sorrow and celebrate the joy, everyday, while we are “just doing our jobs.”
